POPULATION 200
You did read that correctly. The population of Goldfield, Nevada, is really about 200 people and declining each year. The community was recently accepted into the Nevada Department of Commerce Destination Development program with the intent of delivering economic development to what many consider a living ghost town that has not maximized its unique history. Once the largest city in Nevada, Goldfield has world-class history to feature. Yet, the town has no building code enforcement, no zoning, and a landscape covered with remnants of yesteryear. A plan to implement a basic tourism marketing effort is beginning with the small steps that include creating town-wide experiences and developing itineraries that connect Goldfield to other gold and mining attractions in the surrounding communities. The project will ultimately include development of a website, social media marketing campaign, and promotions with the state tourism office to increase the more than 1 million travelers who move up and down the route between Reno, Nevada, and Las Vegas every year to stop and explore the town.
